This new wine shows a different profile of Ribera del Duero. From two vineyards located in the village of Gumiel de Mercado (on the north bank of the Duero River), we made this unique wine with a Tinto fino profile that conveys the extreme character of the high altitude. Extremely poor soils, extremely concentrated wine.

The Winery

Legaris is one of the D.O. Ribera del Duero's flagship wineries.  An innovative winery, it offers boutique, artisan wines made in a modern way.  Legaris lies in a privileged location, enjoying the D.O. Ribera del Duero's unique and exclusive climate.  The origin of its wines, the great wealth and variety of its soils, high quality raw materials and very careful winemaking combine to ensure that the wines from Legaris express and extol the unique character of the area.

Elaboration - Vinification

Alcoholic fermentation took place in small truncated cone-shaped stainless steel tanks.

It was carried out spontaneously, with indigenous yeasts, in order to preserve the uniqueness of this grape. Our intervention was minimal (except for frequent manual punch-downs) and the expression of the grapes is maximized. Aging took place during 11 months in 225 and 500 liter French barrels. Subsequently, the final blend was then made, and in order to maintain its typicity, it was decided to bottle it on the vine (unclarified and unfiltered). In September 2021, 3,846 numbered bottles of this wine were bottled. This wine, like the rest of the winery's innovative range (Calmo Legaris, Páramos de Legaris and Vinos de Pueblo), has a generic Cosecha back label.

Vineyard - Viticulture

The grapes come from two vineyards with an average age of 15 years.

They are located at an altitude of 910 meters above sea level, in the village of Gumiel de Mercado, in the province of Burgos. The soils are mainly clayey and stony, with low organic matter content, which results in a high concentration of the wines. The high altitude at which the vineyards are located favors a later harvest, thus extending the vegetative cycle of the vineyards, which is an important in warm vintages such as 2019.
