The Winery

Legaris is one of the D.O. Ribera del Duero's flagship wineries.  An innovative winery, it offers boutique, artisan wines made in a modern way.  Legaris lies in a privileged location, enjoying the D.O. Ribera del Duero's unique and exclusive climate.  The origin of its wines, the great wealth and variety of its soils, high quality raw materials and very careful winemaking combine to ensure that the wines from Legaris express and extol the unique character of the area.

Elaboration - Vinification

The harvest began, as has been customary in recent years, very early at Legaris, specifically on September 20 with our Tinto fino located at the Curiel de Duero (Valladolid) estate, and ended on October 10.

The grapes were destemmed and transferred practically whole to the tanks. After a 24-hour cold pre-fermentation maceration, alcoholic fermentation was carried out at 26ºC in order to preserve the varietal aromas. The total duration of maceration was 10-12 days. The wine then underwent spontaneous malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Once completed, the wine was transferred to 225-liter French and American oak barrels, where it remained for a total of 6 months. Subsequently, the wine underwent a light fining and a final filtration to refine the wine before bottling.

Vineyard - Viticulture

Selected grapes from Legaris vineyards. All our own vineyards are certified organic since the 2022 harvest.

Winter frosts did not appear until January, although during this month and February, the thermometers were below 0ºC most nights. During April, night frosts were also intense, with the later frosts damaging some of the buds. During June, July and August, average temperatures were again higher than usual. Rainfall was abundant in November and December in Ribera del Duero, although the time between then and June was generally very dry. In the red wines of the 2023 vintage, the fact that they have not reached high alcohol levels will allow the wines to better express their aromatic potential. Likewise, we will find very structured and complex wines, as high levels of phenolic maturity have been reached, and this will be decisive for the production of long-aged wines.
