The Winery

Founded in 1901 in the town of Haro’s legendary Station Quarter, Bodegas Bilbaínas is the longest-standing bottling winery in Rioja.  It also has the most extensive underground cellars in the region and a greater area of vineyards than any other winery in the town: 250 hectares of high quality vines, which supply the winery with its own grapes, ensuring that they can be processed quickly without losing their qualities.  Viña Pomal is its flagship brand, which embodies the Rioja Alta's best winemaking tradition. These are exceptional wines that have remained faithful to the classic style of authentic Rioja from the outset.

Elaboration - Vinification

Ederra Viura-Verdejo is made from two of the authorized white varieties in Rioja.

Ederra Viura-Verdejo is made from two of the authorized white varieties in Rioja. The harvest of these varieties is carried out separately, waiting for the optimum maturation of each one of them, first arriving at Viura winery. The harvest is done early in the morning looking for freshness and minimizing the time of entry into the winery, with the aim of maintaining the fruit and all the expression of these varieties. Once received in the cellar, and after a brief maceration in the press, a natural static racking is carried out, after which an alcoholic fermentation is conducted at 14 ºC maintaining the freshness and vivacity of the wine. After a first transfer of the different varieties separately, the assembly takes place, from which the wine rests together for 3 months before being bottled.

Vineyard - Viticulture

The climatic conditions condition the advance of the grape harvest in a generalized way, as well as a magnificent sanitary state of the grape.

The vintage 2018 is a vintage in which after a dry winter, the rains of the beginning of spring together with the high temperatures accelerate sprouting. It is a particularly warm year with little rainfall, so the entire vegetative cycle of the plant is carried out under conditions of optimum health. These climatic conditions condition the advance of the grape harvest in a generalized way, as well as a magnificent sanitary state of the grape and moderate productions, having a direct impact on the good quality of the grape.
